Dear everyone
Pardon my ignorance, but how many Baby Friendly hospitals are there in the
US? Is it still only the one original in California? Since La Leche
Conference (which my 5, 2, & 1 yr. old boys would no doubt have loved, but
which I missed because I could not imagine actually listening to anything
with them in tow) I have noted references to "the second BF hospital" and
"6 BF hospitals". Did I get the country wrong?
Incidentally the MD in charge of the newborn nursery at a V. BIG hospital
here in Massachusetts came back from LL Conference all fired up and
determined to institute all sorts of new breastfeeding policies and go for
Baby Friendly status. She used to work on the West Coast. She says she
can't understand why people on the East Coast think La Leche people are
'militant'. "After all, you don't all put breast milk in your coffee, do
you?"! She maintains that there is still just the one BF hospital (but 12
that don't accept free formula).
