Given the amount of hard work that Ross Labs and Mead Johnson have been doing
lately regarding purchasing contracts and false advertising for their new
products, maybe all of us are making a difference!! I wonder if it is now
time to take things a step further. Perhaps it is time to boycott Ross Labs
and its parent Abbott Laboratories and Mead Johnson and its parent
Bristol-Myers Squibb. While they both make pharmaceutical products they also
are pusing the nutrition products they make quite heavily (Boost, Sustacal,
Ensure, Pediasure, Toddler Formula,) and all the other formula for children
and adults. We can boycott much of their over the counter medications and all
their toddler formulas etc.
I get tired of hearing how they are thwarting us at each turn. There are many
ways to stop what they are doing. How about exposing it to the public for
what it is - bribery and commercial control of health care provision. How
about leaking this to the press. How many of you have investigative reporters
at your major city newspapers and local TV stations? How about a call to
them.
We need all of you to form hospital task forces and work as a group from
within the institution. The LC on a white horse will not be able to stop all
that is happening. Do not take no for an answer. Quality Improvement groups
can make a difference. How about letting patients know that their health care
is being dictated by formula companies whose threats to hospitals have
administrators worried more about protecting the companies and less about
quality of patient care and health.
Let me know how I can help
