Good grief...this must be my week for sacrificing bf on the altar of
ignorance...
MD has told mother of 3 month old (exclusively bf before this) in
hospital for gillian barre that b/c she had IV IG she should **never bf
again, EVER**. Mother is quite frightened and now pumping and discarding
her milk but she is not convinced he is correct. She is going to ask
the doctor who told her this for references but in the meantime wondered
if there was anyone with any experience with bf after having IV IG.
Closest I can find is Rh Immune Globulin, cited in Lawrence and quoted in
Dr. Tom's book. Mom thinks doctor may have said this b/c IG is a pooled
blood product and increases her risk of contracting a disease carried in
blood. (The gillian barre is resolving nicely and she will likely be d/c
on Monday.) Also, would there be a difference in route of
administration, IV rather than IM?
