One of the mothers in my La Leche League group asked me about a condition
called "dequervainis tendonitis".  She has long had problems with her left
wrist (it was broken twice as a child, she has had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome for
many years, and aggravates the condition at her job because she uses the
computer many hours a day).  Her orthopedic surgeon said that this condition
is "very common in nursing mothers, and probably has to do with positioning
and/or hormonal changes".  While we agree that the positioning argument is
probably valid (her son is 10 months old and weighs about 24 pounds), neither
she nor I had ever heard of tendonitis being caused by hormonal changes
during breastfeeding.  Can anyone comment on this?  Thanks.  Barbara Ash, LLL
