Hi everyone
There was a query about a woman who was using calcipotriol and who
was told not to use it during lactation.
Calcipotriol (what a mouthful!!) is a topical treatment for
psoriasis. It is derived from Vitamin D. According to the information
I have, only 1% of the topical dose is systemically absorbed. The
manufacturers advise not to use the cream on the chest/breasts during
lactation, and also put in the old 'benefits outweigh risks' claim.
At high doses, the cream has caused high calcium levels in users, but
I would think this would not be an issue in the infant, as the amount
of this drug which could possibly be ingested (from mothers skin to
her milk to baby) would be minute.
Hope this helps
