I'm looking up the lactogenic usages of plants associated with fertility
goddesses, for an article in an ethnobotanical journal, and am wondering
about the use of the fig in the near East, since the fig was a symbol of
the goddess Isis, and Juno. Perhaps someone living in the Near East could
ask around for me if any grandmothers still suggest that their
granddaughters eat figs to increase their milk, most likely in Arab
communities?
Also, if anyone knows of good source material about postpartum food
taboos, please send it my way,
Thanks,
Hilary
