Just as we feel we are in our own living rooms to complain, unfortunately
people write e-mails without thinking and the "send" button is very quick.
We really need to write our answers in word processing and sit on them for
a day or two before sending - especially when they are "corrections" . We
are all adults in here and have a right to our opinions. We also have a
right to disagree with each other's opinions. However, respect is
essential. Yes, La Leche League has given some of us the experience of
working with people who have very different views and ideas - some of my
moms have the maid feed the baby expressed breastmilk at night - and you
also have heard of the devotion of some of the moms I've come in contact
with. They all deserve our respect.
Also it is evident that for some (including me) Lactnet has become sort of
a "family" - and you usually don't treat family with either the respect or
the caring that we reserve for those who are not family members. It is a
pity. We need to be just as respectful of our parents, siblings and
children.
Chris, your messages have been very important to me and I've learned a lot.
I hope you don't give up on us but be a persistent reminder of the need we
have to keep on caring for each other as much as we care for breastfeeding!
There's nothing like a lousy experience to make us more sensitive to others
(like having hemorroids after childbirth - I often tell moms this is so
we'll be sympathetic to Grandma when she says hers hurt).
