Hello again,
Thanks to those who have given me info on Lupus so far. Now more problems
have developed. Mom has a breast infection. Infected breast had a crack that
wasn't healing and she had to rush baby to ped for rapid breathing yesterday
and then took baby to ER at 11pm last night for irregular pulse and rapid
breathing.Mom woke up today with 104 degree fever and half her left breast
bright red. She got an antibiotic and is treating it appropriately. While on
the phone today with the Hematology Clinic mom mentioned her breast
infection, the person at the clinic said mom should not give milk from
infected breast to baby (just to be sure)because of bacteria present in the
milk(milk has not been cultured). Now I know with a healthy infant this is
not a problem but is it a concern for this infant who has an enlarged liver,
anemia and possible a congenital heart problem.Mom feels this person was not
entirely sure of this advice plus she didn't say how long to discard the
milk. Of course all specialists Mom has come into contact with want baby to
have breastmilk so mom is upset that baby is getting more formula. She
doesn't want to waste her breastmilk if this is not necessary. Also, one
doctor (in the ER) did tell mom that babies can be born with congenital heart
abnormalities when their mothers have Lupus. Is this true?
TIA
