While I'm not from the CDC (and I think there are a few LNers who are), the
chicken pox vaccine poses no unusual vaccination risks unless either the
mother or baby are immuno-compromised. It would be advisable for the
mother to wait until the neonatal period is over, as the baby's own immune
system begins to function more (but it continues to pick up strength
logrhythmically until way over age one (or so I understand). As someone
who experienced chicken pox at the age of 31, and as a young faculty
member, I can attest to how bad it can be for adults (try at least 600
spots--my then 4 year old helped count them) and how long it can drag on
(took me 6 weeks to fully recover). However, I'm sure there are others on
LN with vastly different perspectives on this issue as immunization issues
are one of those "areas".
