Have a pregnant mom (gravida 1) who has been identified as a Hepatitis
B Carrier (E Componet). The lab work done by an infectious disease
specialist corresponds with low infectivity (positive antibody, negative
antigen). She desperately wants to breastfeed but infectious disease
doc says that he doesn't think she should breastfeed. However, he did
admit that he knows nothing about breastfeeding as a means of
transferring infection. Her OB says that it probably is OK to
breastfeed after baby has received vaccine. I checked the archives and
the last entry about hepatitis B was 6/95 and dealt with those actually
infected with Hepatitis B. I told the parents that I would tap into
this wonderful reaource to get them some additional opinions. Thanks.
