Joan: Yes, night sweats are common in lactating mothers whose estrogen
levels are still low. In most women that means that as long as they are
ammenorheic, they may have these. Most doctors will offer to prescribe
Estrace to counter this, but it really is not necessary. We've had great
success with moms taking wild yam and vitex (herbs) daily. It not only
eliminates the sweating, but also normalizes vaginal secretions and helps
dry/thinning skin/hair. If she doesn't want to go either of these routes,
there's always the sleep naked and put a towel down under your body
strategy. This usually lessens as nursing progresses even if menses
haven't returns. 'Hope this helps.
