Looking for help for a patient we currently have in clinic - patient
has been nursing for five months - for the last two months,Mom has
been complaining re a deep radiating pain in lt. breast, that starts
at the base of the breast (7 o'clock position) and radiates to the
nipple - it has become unbearable and Mom is thinking of discontinuing
breastfeeding - she has been treated with mycostatin (even though her
physician did not feel she or the baby had any signs of candiasis, and
has not had any mastitis - but was treated with antibiotics due to
pain - at six weeks she did have cracked nipples which healed on their
own - following a feeding the mother states that the deep radiating
pain can last for as long as two hours and is accompanied with deep
feeling of being itchy in the breast - does this sound like deep duct
candiasis? Any suggestions for further assessment or treatment would
     be greatly appreciated.
