Just anecdotal re. methergine...I was on it postpartum w/ 1st baby
(ended up having a D&C anyway) and had no problems w/ milk supply or the
other side effects mentioned. I was on it w/ 2nd baby and actually have
oversupply "problems" now. (If I remember correctly, you're not
supposed to take it for more than 5 or 6 days.) I'm not her doc, but w/
that heavy of bleeding I'd probably want an exam. W/ both of my babies,
the blood loss and resulting low Hb/Hct made me more fatigued than
usual; nursing required all the energy I had and I may have become
discouraged from that were I not such a passionate bf advocate.

HELP! I just got a call from a mom who was prescribed Methergine for
bleeding 4 days pp.(Mom was exhibiting a pinkish-orange flow which is
now heavy--1 pad per hour-with mothball size clots. Doc prescribed
methergine over the phone, said she MUST take it, but that he didn't
want her to come in for an exam. Side effects incude coldness, tingling,
or numbing due to restriction in the blood vessels. Needless to say,
she is very concerned about what this might to her milk supply, which is
not yet well established. I have loaned out my Medications and Mother's
Milk and am at a real loss. Please e-mail me directly as well as posting
to the list, as I need help ASAP Thanx in advance
