This has been a huge problem in the inpatient hospital setting where I
work. A few suggestions that have helped...Get the nurses accompany you
when they ask you to talk to a client so they can learn from what you
do, elicit the assistance of the "head nurse" or whoever is managing the
unit, create a brf bulletin board and generate educational notices about
the basics, distribute memos about what constitutes an appropriate
referral to an LC. I find I must constantly remind the nurses that it
needs to be "beyond the basics" for me to be called in. Host brf
workshops for the nurses to attend for continuing education, require new
orientees to do "rounds" with you.....I wish I had solved the problem
but some of these things may help.
