Hello lactnetters,
I worked with my first insulin dependent mom last fall and learned quite
a bit while helping her. Her physicians encouraged her strongly to
breastfeed, so we met several times prenatally. She of course delivered
early (34-35wks). She wanted to avoid giving the baby any formula, so
we got donor breastmilk flown in right away. It was a very positive
experience for everyone.
I am now taking a lactation internet course from Jan Riordan (you all
should try it). I am doing a project on breastfeeding and diabetes and
find only a few references. I would really appreciate it if those of
you who are experts in this area would share some of your knowledge and
any bibliographies/references, etc. After trying my local, state, and
national diabetes associations and being told they have no info, I am
even more convinced that information needs to be gathered and made
available for moms as well as lactation professionals. I look forward
to hearing from some of you.
