Kari: I may have missed something. Is this mom nursing and has
"menopausal serum hormone levels" or has baby weaned? If she is nursing
and has these low estrogen and FSH levels, that is probably normal. Most
women experience a gradual decline in estrogen production beginning in
their early 30's (yes you read correctly, I said 30s--some even in their
20s). If you add lactational suppression of hormones, without any
supplementation through something like wild yam and vitex, or
pharmaceuticals like estrace, then it is entirely possible for this to be
transient. That is her levels will go up after weaning, but not to the
same point they were at say when she was 25. Please email me if you want
more information on this. There is a lot of misinformation out there about
menopause, lactation, and the interaction, (and ob/gyns are not always as
knowledgable as one might expect/hope).
Back to winter in Oregon...rain, rain, rain (but it was 75 & sunny yesterday),
