Pamela's posts about using sulpiride with induced lactation has reminded
me that I tried to get it before our last baby was born. I had read
about it in Ruth Lawrence's book and, since it is not a dopamine
antagonist, as metoclopramide is, I thought maybe I could get by with
taking it without depression. However, the pharmacist here told me that
it was not available in the USA.
Does anyone have any information about how I might get ahold of some?
Besides wanting it for other mothers that I work with, I would like to
try taking it myself. Our youngest, Joanna, is 20 months old, and
nursing very rarely now, not enough for me to have more than a few drops
of milk. She had been nursing without the Lact-Aid for several months.
I know she wasn't getting alot of milk, but I think was getting at least
a couple ounces a day. I had taken a Depo Provera shot last spring, for
various reasons. I think it may have actually helped my milk production
a little bit but I had such horrible side effects for the first six
weeks that I decided not to get a second dose. I had no period for
seven months but, as soon as I had one, my milk really dried up. Since
then, she will only nurse once in a while and doesn't suck very well
when she does. I have tried to go back to using the Lact-Aid, but she
doesn't want it anymore. She's had a cold that she can't seem to shake
and I would sure like to go back to giving her some breastmilk.
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Aloha,
Darillyn
