Hi all, just had something that I would like to share with you all...esp.
Kathy D. and Brian Palmer (since you both have corresponded with me about
this). My daughter Anna is almost 3, and has been going to the pediatric
dentist since she was 18 mos. old. She has a lot of decay on her front, top
four teeth, that the dentist had insisted was "caused" from developmental
breastfeeding (most esp. night nursing). Through information supplied by
Kathy and Brian, I learned that most likely her problem was hypoplasia of the
enamel. My dentist would have none of this, and told me a yr ago that I
needed to wean my daughter. Well, to make a long story not quite so long,
yesterday, Anna had an appt. for cleaning, flouride and exam. When all was
through, the dentist told me that the decay was not progressing and that
Anna's teeth were immaculate!! She said that most likely Anna could keep
these teeth until her permanent ones erupted. She kept telling me that I had
been doing a great job cleaning Anna's teeth and then all of a sudden she
said to me, "You know Pam, the single most important thing that you have done
to insure Anna's good dental health, was to wean her from the breast". Say
what????? She had just ASSUMED that I had followed her instructions and
weaned my daughter prematurely!!! I looked at her and said, "Dr. Sandra, I
have NOT weaned Anna. She nurses quite frequently and as a matter of fact,
she nurses all through the night WITHOUT brushing afterwards! I guess those
night nursings did not have anything to do with her dental problems, huh??"
I wish that everyone could have seen the look on her face!! I mean, her jaw
literally fell open!! It was worth every penny of this expensive visit
($94), just to see that look!!! What could she say???
