Sandy,
I am a little late seeing your post but I do have some suggestions. One
of my children was older and extremely challenging to convert to
nursing. It took alot of creativity and patience, but we finally did it.
I have since worked with several other mothers, most recently one wh
adopted a baby from China. Baby was seven months old at placement. It
took about six weeks for her to accept the breast. Last I heard,
adoptive mom and baby were both very happy with their nursing
relationship.
As far as pumping, this particular mom had been able to pump an ounce at
each sitting, but, in my experience, that is fairly unusual. Most pump
only drops, including many who are able to bring in a substantial amount
once they get their babies. I don't know if age would be a factor or
not.
Anyway, if you would like details about how I converted my daughter to
breastfeeding, the best thing would be for me to mail them to you, if
you want to mail me your street address. I will be away from home for a
few days, but can try to get it off to you tomorrow before I leave.
Aloha,
Darillyn
