Sharon: Try the following: Marino BL, et al. Oxygen saturations during
breast and bottle feedings in infants with congenital heart disease. J
Pediatr Nurs 1995;10(6):360-4; and Combs VL, Marino BL. A comparison of
growth patterns in breast and bottle fed infants with congenital heart
disease. Pediatr Nurs 1993;19:175-9.
Although this is not a strictly breast vs. bottle thing, it could be
argued that since bf is best for such babies, pumping is essential to keep
up her milk supply so she can continue to nurse her baby when at home.
It'll be tough, though. My experience with too many managed care
companies is that they are "penny wise, pound foolish" with this sort of
stuff. They look at it as a lifestyle choice and don't see the long-term
benefits and potential cost-savings. So sad. Alicia.
