How about making really sure that at least one breast is "empty". I have
had good results suggesting that the mother gives the first breast twice
before offering the second one: that way, one is reasonably certain that
baby has had both fore and hindmilk (the"apple juice", of which an excess
can cause gassiness, and the "main plate", that balances the meal, I explain
mothers).
Also, may I suggest that you pay good attention to the ejection reflex:
having milk poured down your throat may give a bit of gassiness too.
