Just had to comment here :-)

8 year olds can nurse just like 5 year olds. It can be nursing a lot, or
nursing for a minute before bed, or nursing once every two weeks.

Every kid is different. Many of the late weaners were also late in other
things. Toilet training. Talking. Learning to read. Many have food
allergies. Are very high need.

Why is it that we tend to act as if we are in a race? Who cares if the kid
weans at 2, 4, 6 or 8? I've heard of kids nursing till 9 - none older than
that. They ALL will wean before puberty!!!!

I had a 7 year old over at my house this past weekend. Everytime everyone
walked out the room, his thumb popped back into his mouth.
