Anne and others: I think (sometimes)...seriously, I know you are right
about the spacey feeling moms experience during let down, but I think it's
really hard to separate out long term sleep-cycle deprivation. This is one
of the reasons moms and babies do well sleeping together. Their brain
waves and sleep cycles supposedly synchronize. The trick with tandem
nursing would be to get all three of you on the same cycle...that means
daytime sleeping for you too!
What I really wonder about is whether there is a correlation
between moms who experience a lot of this spaced-out feeling and the rate
at which they have PMS and PPD. Could it be that some mothers are
particularly sensitive to hormonal fluctuations OR is it that their
hormonal fluctuations are much greater? Could be a good research
study...just remember to send the proposal to the LLLI Coordinator of
Research Review Committee (me) for "official" review. I just couldn't
resist given how many people responded to my post on credentials.
WarmLLLy,
Chris
