Sure do! Prof Cockburn is a gem - well respected, both in Scotland and
nationally. He is nearing retirement and seems to feel that this frees him
to speak his mind. He speaks well at conferences, gives a good
presentation which starts with an overhead 'You are what you eat' with a
picture of a cup of coffee and a sandwich or similar, and ends with 'You
are what you ate'. Very into how human brain not complete till about 18
months, and breastmilk (or dha) necessary for development. Takes the view
that abm is 4th rate feeding. (following mother feeding at own breast, wet
nursing, donor milk - hope I've got that right, you get the gist).
Research published in Lancet related (I think) to postmortems on brains of
SIDS victims - was able to show differences in breastfed and artificially
fed - though as he says there weren't many breastfed anyway -partly
reflecting low bf rates in Scotland.

I believe that he was involved in the research which led to the demise of
National Dried Milk as a baby milk in UK - some bright sparks noticed that
babies admitted with convulsions were all fed National Dried Milk, early
70's I think.

He is a great friend to bf in Scotland - very supportive to the various
initiatives over the years, and always ready to help with publicity. I
know his comments may seem a bit over the top - I am not sure in this case
whether this was a small part of what he said, and the press just jumped on
it - but he certainly gets folks thinking!
