Terri
The mom you are following with a dog bite must feel miserable. These wounds
can take a long time to heal. Her own breast milk on the wound will be
helpful.
I must respond to your comment that with nursing on only one side she will
not be able to provide the calories for her baby. One breast stimulated
adequately WILL produce all the milk this baby needs. This is also a
temporary stimulation but a definate option.
This mom is probably on antibotics and any germs from the dog have been
cleansed and killed so the baby is not going to be exposed to them. When mom
can resume nursing on that side would probably depend on her comfort level
and if the drainage is purulent. If she continues to drain from the wound
but it is a light red to clear fluid she should be able to breastfeed.
