I am trying to do an archive search to get info on getting a baby off of
the bottle and back onto the breast, and I'm not sure what to search for!
This baby is 20 wks now, born at 34, and has been bottle-fed EBM up to this
point. He will suck at the breast for about 5 minutes and then he will pull
away and cry. There is audible swallowing, so milk supply seems good. Have
tried different positioning as baby seems to get really agitated when held
closely to mom's body (she is a "large" woman, tho breasts are not
exceptionally large). Almost seems as tho the baby gets overheated. Baby
totally rejects the SNS.
Mom really wants to get baby to breast. She has two pumps, one electric and
one manual; the electric is an odd brand (begins with S, I think) that I've
never heard of and the mom reports a lot of pain when pumping, especially
with the electric. She lives in Neah Bay, which for you geography buffs is
the northwesternmost point in the contiguous U.S. So she's isolated and
limited in her choices. But bf is extremely important to her emotionally
and logistically (even if she had money for formula, it's hard to get out
there).
An LC (who I'm trying to get on this l*st) will speak with her on Monday, I
think, and perhaps see her as well if the road conditions permit her to
travel out there. I asked her to do a suck assessment if she can, which
hasn't been done yet. She's also going to find out how long it is from the
start of nursing to when mom has letdown.
Oh, dear. I went on longer than I'd planned. Suggestions for searching or
anything at all appreciated.
