Regarding the post:
Subject: bone cement and nursing
"A surgical nurse is returning to work at 6 weeks postpartum and is wondering
about the safety of giving her baby expressed milk after working with bone
cement, Methyl Methacrylate (made by Howe Medica)."
My understanding of this chemical and it's structure would suggest that
there is not a great danger to the baby when compared to the risks of ABM.
Part of the basis for this conclusion are the studies recently published on
the development of babies exposed to high levels of toxins such as methyl
mercury and PCBs. Breastfeeding provided protective effects IN SPITE OF
high toxin concentrations being passed through the breastmilk. (see
Breastfeeding Abstracts Winter or Spring 1996).
