It is always harder to counsel relatives especially a sister who lives in
Toronto when you live in Pennsylvania. Anyway, here is the case, Mom IDDM for
28yrs. but was in tight control during preg. Baby now 3 1/2 mo. I have
followed recent threads on low supply and addressed usual concerns with Mom.
She was using one side now she is using both. Taking vitamins, etc. etc....
Baby eating every 45min. in early evening but 4oz of EBM in a bottle seems
to settle him. Mom now pumping several times a day (early in day) to
stimulate supply. She is complimenting early evenings with EBM and still BF
every 2-3 hrs too. Supply seems to be responding. I have also quoted her from
Lawerence who says episodes of hypoglycemia can reduce supply and interfere
with letdown. Mom is almost always low in the early afternoon thru dinner
time and seems to be having more trouble gaining tighter control than when
she was preg.(of course baby takes up some of that time now) Anybody
experienced working with diabetic nursing mothers? TIA Robin
