PRIORITY:
Thanks to Margery Wilson and Kathy Koch for forwarding the article. The
"nutrients from dirt" idea is not *entirely* new--Vit K (i think i remember)
being one chickens were able to pick up as it was bacterially synthesized--but
what an excuse to say brmlk is *deficient*!!!! . At least the article did go
on to discuss iron absorption, which sort of contradicted to some degree the
previous paragraph.
There's a researcher at UC Davis that has done a lot with the effect of diet
on human milk--but all i can call lto mind (I'm home, no refs) is she authored
the DARLING studies which is an acronym, and she too is a Kathy. As I recall,
the effect of diet was pretty minimal on milk composition, nutrientwise, which
is why we keep telling woomen their diets *do not* have to be *perfect* to
brfd, and why malnourished women can still produce milk--witness the gal
snowbound in the Reno area a few years ago while hubby went to get help...
Given the complexities, though, it SHOULD B OBVIOUS that ABM just does NOT
measure up to breastmilk!!!!!! Even in this wishy washy article.
