The most persistent myth which exists in this community
is "the baby gets all the milk in the first 7 minutes,
so nurse for 10 minutes and that is fine". This suggestion
is usually made to a mother who's baby is not
gaining well. Where did this come from??? I seem to recall an
LLL Conference tape (Kitty Frantz?) in which the speaker
mentioned that a "study" was done placing a shield with a
sensor over a nipple and measuring the infant sucking and
milk flow. The article reporting this was in British
medical journal.
Anyone familiar with this study and report? or the origin of the
myth?
Am also looking for a succinct medical type article which
dispels the myth...Thanks all for your help.
