Yaffa, Marie, & others....
This will be a quick note (I am packing....), but thanks for your
suggestions. I did see the couple again yesterday. I did do a suck evaluation
with a syringe feeding and discovered two things: the tongue position is not
totally good (still humped in back) despite being over gum ridge, and the kid
has a REALLY tight jaw. He had a tonic bite that clamped down on my finger
and stayed locked for a good 15-20 seconds! ouch! No wonder mom says he feels
like he is chomping! Soooo.....we went over correct latch, and tongue and
mouth muscle exercises, taking "rest" sessions if the discomfort gets too
much for her some days, and permission to syringe or cup feed if this
happpens. She wants to keep trying (yay!), and has a good supply and good
MER. I will keep in touch and keep you posted. I'll see some of you real soon
in Scottsdale. Thanks!
Denise M.
