I have been working with a Mom who is using a breast shield due to severly
inverted nipples. We tried Hoffman technique, hobit shells, pumping with a
hospital grade pump, and SNS. Nothing worked. We used the breast sheild and
baby latched and has been nursing well. Our concern is that baby is not
gaining weight. Baby is 6wks old and is putting out good wet diapers and
stools, but has only just regained her birth weight. Her doctor has been
very supportive and would like to know if taping an SNS to the outside of a
breastshield would help. She is fingerfeeding baby after 2 feedings a day,
but would like to have baby at breast for these feedings. Her inverted
nipples are the worst I have ever seen and it is genetic as all females in
her immediate family have same history. All suggestions are welcome. Thank
you
