The mother can nurse as soon as the baby is ready.  My wife nursed our
third while they were still sewing her up.

If the mother gets a general anaesthetic, she can nurse as soon as she
is awake (usually within an hour or so).  Those that say otherwise
are also those that say that mothers have no milk for the first three
days.  If that's so, what's the problem?  A pox on them too.
