I am posting this at the request of another LLLL. She received a
telephone call this morning from a mother who is seven months pregnant
with her first child. The mother has just moved to the area and is
scheduled to see a new ob next week.

The mother has a lump in her breast that is slightly sore to the touch.
The mother describes her breasts as huge ("Dolly Parton on steroids" was
the mother's description). Due to the size, she is wearing a bra at all
times, including at night. The woman has been buying larger bra sizes
and states they are not too tight. Last night was the first time she did
not sleep wearing a bra. She has also been leaking colostrum
(presumably). The woman is wondering if it could be a plugged duct.

The Leader has checked the newest addition of the BAB. The only
discussion of plugged ducts during pregnancy deals with a mother
breastfeeding during pregnancy. Is it possible or likely that this
mother could have a plugged duct? The mother intends to pursue the matter
with her new ob, but wanted information as to whether this was possible.
The Leader has considered the possibility of cancer. If it is a plugged
duct, would the treatment be the same as for after birth?

Any insights or information would be greatly appreciated. You may post
to me privately or to the list.
