Jane,
I can't speak for the amount of time the drugs will remain in her system,
but the co-founder of the bf support group with which I'm involved was
diagnosed with thyroid cancer just before her daughter was born. She began
radioactive iodine treatments immediately after the birth. Since no one
could tell her how long the radiation would remain in her milk, she pumped
and dumped for TWO YEARS until she and her onc. were satisfied that it was
out of her system. Then she fed pumped breastmilk to her daughter for three
more years, well, it'll be 3 soon, as the baby will be five years old in a
couple of months and is doing great. If you would like me to ask her for
any tips, support, words of wisdom, etc., I can do that. This woman has
been quite an inspiration to me, as has her husband. When she went through
having seizures after having brain surgery, her husband pumped her breasts
for her for several months. He's my favorite male lactivist, next to Dr.
Jack, of course.
Cheers
Nancy Kramer
