With both my children I experienced a return of menses at 4- 6
months even though I was exclusively breastfeeding and sharing sleep, all
that. I was fine with the return and didn't worry too much about pregnancy
ie. no BCpills.
But the day before I begun to menstrate each of my children really didn't
like nursing and never seemed happy with the milk. I often wondered if the
hormone change affected the milk. Just my .02, but it was my experience.
I can imagine a bunch of other variable around the beginning of a period
that could add up to an uncomfortable day nursing so never really worried
about it since it worked itself out by the next day.
