When I was in graduate school at the University of Connecticut working with Ann Ferris on the
Diabetes in Lactation Study Group, we mesured ketones in the milk of a few women both with
and without diabetes.  Ketones were present in some of the women- both with and without
diabetes.  We chose women based on high blood sugars if they had diabetes and low calorie
intake if they did not have diabetes.
