To all the Israeli LCs on line:
Check out Friday (today's) edition of the Jerusalem Post's City Lights.  Wendy
Blumfeld of the Israel Childbirth Education Center wrote a 2 page spread (including
a wonderful picture of a newborn at the breast) on bf.  I'm sure it will be an eye-
opener for many readers who don't realize how Israeli health institutions - who
claim to be pro-breast - allow violations of the WHO Code.  What a pleasure to read
a factual article!  Good going ICEC!

Pearl, the Hebrew word for LC is Yoetzet Hanaka.  Yoetzet meaning consultant.
There is no difference between an LC and BC.  Therefore, professional consultants
use the work meektzoee (professional) and a volunteer may use meetnadevet.  The word
breast is not mentioned.  It is understood in the verb (suckling or nursing.)

I have never experienced crank calls or sexual harassment.  When I tell people what
I do for a living, I usually get (LONG) sob stories about failed experiences.
Sometimes I hear little snickers of embarrassment from the dads at the prenatal
courses where I teach.  I get flashbacks of being in Sex Ed class in Jr. High.
From time to time, my profession does raise eyebrows.  When I first went to register
at the tax authorities, the (male) clerk got very flustered.  He simply didn't know
what tax catagory to place me in since LC does not exist on his computer!  The
closest thing was "baby nurse."

Now Ladies, if you think WE have it bad, think about the poor proctologists!
