Stephanie,

A couple of suggestions for increasing PP bonding/BF

Minimum time committment option:

Suggest to expectant parents that they discuss early initiation of
breastfeeding with their HCPs, then call the hospital where they plan to go
for the baby's birth and discuss it with the Patient Care Director for Labor
and Delivery. When they arrive on L&D the mother's support person can relate
these discussions with the nurse so that everyone knows what the expectations
are and plans can be made accordingly.

Lots of time committment option:

Write a proposal for lactation initiation competencies for Labor and Delivery
nurses and submit proposals to the Patient Care Directors for L&D at local
hospitals. Include research, and documentation on Joint Commission standards
of care to back up your recommendations. You may also want to include how you
could be helpful in this endeaver.
