I have had a recent spate of clients whose babies want to breastfeed "all
the time", appear colicky/fussy/dissatisfied. Their mothers are being
prescribed the Ovrette mini-pill (containing 0.075mg norgestrel) from Day 1
to Day 14 post-partum. The baby's behaviour seems to change within 3 - 4
days of the mother starting this mini-pill. One baby remained jaundiced for
5 weeks. My "hunch" is that this medication may affect the protein/fat
content of breastmilk and the earlier on in lactation it is taken the
greater the effect. Does anyone have any experience with this, any
anecdotal reports, case studies they could share, or references? Thanks.
