This is a late response to Lisa Marasco's post on October 21. I too feel that
herbs and homeopathy are not in the same category as chemical drugs. People
can use these themselves by picking them in their backyards. I am careful to
suggest alternatives and to say something like, "Many mothers have found..."
It is just too frustrating to know that something very simple and benign like
an herb or homeopathic remedy might really help a situation and actually keep
a mom breastfeeding and not to recommend it. Now I agree that you need to
know something about these things first and use care, but I have seen some
dramatic results particularly with homeopathy. If I am not comfortable
suggesting something I at least offer a referral to a good herbal/homeopathic
practitioner, and these are often not MD's.
