I recently had a call from a young first-time mom whose pedi told her the
8week old baby was gaining too fast and she should start diluting the
formula....to which she replied that she was exclusively BFing. She was then
instructed to give water in between feedings. Fortunately she called me to
verify the need...I explained the rapid and NORMAL growth of a bf baby and
info from the Dewey study about growth patterns; then I explained the
potential risks of water in general. As Dr. Jack would say "ARGH!!!"
