I need to know if anyone has had experience with mothers of premature infants
pumping with Medela's Pump In Style breast pump. I talked to a mother at the
hospital this week who delivered a 31 week old infant by C/S for PIH. She
will be using the hospital's SMB pump until discharge, but after that,
naturally wants to use the PNS that she has already purchased.
I have had no experience with mothers initiating a milk supply with the PNS.
Is this a risky proposition, or can she try it and see how it goes? I
explained to her that her pump might not be adequate, and encouraged her to
pump at the hospital with the SMB while she was visiting baby. I will try to
follow her closely to see how her supply is progressing--is this enough?
Has Medela done any research on this?

TIA,
