Hello friends-
As I don't have time to stay "connected" on the net too much anymore, I am
hoping that you all will help me. I have a mom (not yet delivered,
primagravida) who has intermittent nipple eczema, and is planning to
breastfeed. Her dermatologist prescribes Desowen 0.5% topically for this,
and this controls it rather well, at least when not nursing. We will have to
wait and see about that. The active ingredient here is desonide, a
corticosteroid. I seem to remember some time back, a discussion on this
topic. How should I advise her on this? Is there any data on the absorption
of the steroids by baby? Has Dr. Hale addressed this? The dermatologist and
I would like your opinions/data. Thanks in advance!
