--MILK BLISTERS
Hello, my name is Elisabeth Tufte. Can anyone give me more advises then
I find in most of the text books ?A mother with an 8 months old baby
called me today. She has problems with milk blisters on one of her
nipples. She gets it often once or twice a week. She has tried to pump
when it happens but with no result, after a long struggle her baby is
able to loosen it up. I observed the feeding situation and the baby is
not latching on well enough. He is also pulling the breast. I assume it
is impossible to improve his nursing position at this age?? But why does
the plug return over and over again? Does she gets scarring of the ducts
? She gets symptom’s of an infection. She gets plugged ducts and a hard
area. When she is able to empty the breast it is often still plugged at
the base of the nipple. Why does this happen? To prevent this I have
recommended Oxytocin spray and pumping once a day since the baby often
is not emptying the breast well enough, so she is able to drain it well
enough at least once a day. She nurses about 6 times a day.
