LIsa -- As long as this baby is thriving by all subjective and objective
measures then it's probably smart to accept that this baby is just not wild
about solids yet. I would, however, check to see if the mom is approaching
solids in a way that suits her baby. For example, some babies love to sit in
high chair as mom spoons jars of glop into face. Others loath to sit still.
Others loath anything they cannot control so spooning food into face doesn't
work at all but finger foods are great.
Some mothers are so concerned about the baby choking they don't allow enough
experimentation with solids. A high chair tray with assortment of finger
food such as mashed peas, soft melon, cheerios, etc. can be really fun (and
nutritious) for a baby who has no interest in spoons (except as toys).
I too have read that there is a window at 5-8 months in terms of introducing
solids with implication that difficulties will ensue if missed. Hmmmm.
Personal experience is my first child who was very slow on solids is now
wonderful eater of varied tastes. Second child who took to solids alarmingly
well is much more conservative in what she will now eat. Go figure.
