Dear Lactnetters,
A newly pregnant mom--7-8 weeks--diagnosed with
hypoparathyroidism. Her parathyroid gland has disintegrated as if she'd
had it surgically removed.
She want to bf. OB is cautiously positive; endocrinologist not
sure b/c of calcium levels.
Taking vitamin D (50,000 IU) and calcium tablets (2 a day, 250
mg) and prenatals. Has been stable, ca level is 7.6.
Has 2 year old whom she nursed w/supplementation for 5 months.
She was diagnosed with hypoparathyroidism about a year ago--at first,
they thought she'd had a stroke.
Dear experts, has anyone any info? I couldn't find it in any of
my normal sources. Sometimes this lack of information can be positive;
it means that there is little to connect that condition and difficulty
bf.....
TIA
