My hero Binte. Did anyone catch the Today show yesterday morning on NBC? They
interviewed the doc taking care of the 3 year old and the gorilla trainer.
The trainer stated that Binte was raised in captivity in California by
humans. The reason they moved her to Brookfield was so she could socialize
with other gorillas and learn how to BREASTFEED and mother her own. The
trainer came very close to explaining this amazing act by relating Binte's
mothering instinct with BREASTFEEDING! (By this time I'm asking my 3 year old
did you hear that?!) However, he was cut off by the interviewer (guess you
can't talk about the "B" word on national TV yet). I would love to talk more
to the trainer, seemed he wanted to go into this further. Think his name was
Jay Petersen. Do mammals that breastfeed make better mothers? OOOH.. touchy
subject.
