Hi All,
Sad news from Oakland, Caliornia tonight. It seems that their 11 mo old baby
elephant died. Cause of death was some type of intestinal disease. The
reason given for the intestinal illness was that his mother was unable to BF
him and the formula they were feeding him did not provide the neccessary
antibodies to protect him.
Now can I say, DUH!!!!!!! While I am very sad that this poor creature
died, I want to know WHY couldn't his mother BF him, WHAT did the zoo do to
try and help the BF, and will people start to finally see the importance of
BF, regardless of the species?? Why is it that formulas (or ABM's) are
considered OK for humans, but are not OK for other animals because of the
lack of antibodies, etc.?
Now we have the ABM idiots, I mean companies, getting ready to start their
campaign for their new and improved garbage, I mean formula, and more human
babies will suffer the effects of poor health. But of course, no one is
spearheading a campaign for new and improved animal formulas because we all
know that animals who are not BF stand a far greater risk of death from
disease from lack of mothers antibodies etc.

Sick of double standards...we are all animals, folks, and ALL animals need
mother's milk!
