Evonne and other Lactnetters: I've been no-mail for a bit and saw Evonne's
LAM post. I'm assuming that you know about Labbok's research on LAM and
that you just want our personal practice experience...so here goes: With
both of my children my menses retuned at 15 months with unlimited,
on-demand feeding and a family bed. My periods start out heavy, but spaced
6 weeks apart (not my norm of 30 days), but after a few cycles they
normalize.
My experience as a LLL Leader has shown me that far more women have
difficulty getting pregnant while still nursing (even just a few times a
day), than the other way around (with some major notable exceptions).
Women who start off with higher body fat composition seem to get their
periods back sooner. Some researchers have hypothesized that this might be
due to estrogen stores in fat. As an LC I don't see many women who seek
assistance beyond the first year.
'Hope this helps.
Chris
